I've been sending leadership newsletters for nearly 20 years.
During that time, I've written about hundreds of topics affecting leaders and organizations.
One of them has been change.
So it seems appropriate that it's time for me to make a change of my own.
Beginning with this issue, I'm changing the format of this newsletter.
It will be shorter, easier to read, and more conversational, while continuing to focus on leadership issues I believe are relevant to you.
And what better subject to begin with than change.
I once worked with a leader whose management style had served her well for years.
She was experienced, decisive and knew how to get results.
But something had changed.
Her people weren't responding to her the way they once had.
Turnover was high. Morale was suffering. And the harder she pushed, the worse things became.
The problem wasn't that she had suddenly become a bad leader.
The environment around her had changed, but her leadership style hadn't.
Through coaching, she began to recognize that what had worked in the past wasn't necessarily going to work now.
She changed her approach, gave her people greater responsibility and gradually moved away from a command-and-control style.
The results changed too.
GREAT LEADERS KNOW WHEN IT'S TIME TO CHANGE.
Leadership isn't about finding one successful approach and using it forever.
People change.
Organizations change.
Expectations change.
Great leaders recognize when something that once worked no longer does, and they're willing to change with it.
Apparently, that applies to newsletters too.
