STERNLIGHT McCARTHY, BA, RDMS
Barbara Sternlight McCarthy is a published author and career development
consultant, whose creative energy is expressed through her work
with personal and professional growth and development, as well as
career transitions. An engaging and effective public speaker and
facilitator of workshops, Barbara has presented to both domestic
and international audiences.
Prior to joining Wolf Management Consultants, Barbara focused her
efforts for the last seven years on training, development and career
transitions, as the principal of Advantage Consulting. She is a
Certified Consultant for MAPP™ (Motivational Appraisal of
Personal Potential), a robust instrument, which identifies an individualês
unique potential, and which is used to support growth in a personal
and/or professional environment. Having experienced career transitions
herself, Barbara effectively utilizes the MAPP™ assessment
process with individuals choosing or changing careers.
As a consultant to Pfizer Pharmaceuticals La Jolla Research and
Development Laboratories, Barbara has been working with the Commercial
Operating Committee, the top leadership group for commercial operations
for Pfizer La Jolla. She is utilizing MAPP to help enhance team
effectiveness as well as to identify and implement objectives for
group strategies. In addition, she has been called upon to work
with selected high performing sales representatives to further develop
their potential.
Prior to this assignment, in her role as consultant to management
in the Learning & Development and Organizational Effectiveness functions,
Barbara helped to develop and implement programs for Pfizer colleagues.
Through customer needs analyses, she ensured that customized training
programs would address the specific requirements of a complex matrix
environment. She also created and managed a marketing campaign,
implemented via her newly designed webpage, to raise awareness of
the programs. She created, co-created and taught various training
courses in subjects such as time management (with an emphasis on
techniques for project leaders in a scientific environment), team
development and social styles.
Barbara's expertise includes curriculum development, patient, physician
and community education, customer satisfaction and corporate Quality
Assurance programs. In a career in the medical field spanning over
20 years, she held management and training positions at American
Medical International, Toshiba America Medical Systems and Intra-Sonix
--- companies dedicated to delivering high-quality healthcare services
and medical equipment to an international market. During this time,
she developed and introduced multi-faceted marketing and communications
strategies and training programs for corporate sales and clinical
personnel, international product distributors and technical specialists.
Her experience with product development, market research, public
relations, and identification/penetration of markets for new products
included creating and implementing diagnostic service programs for
hospitals, private and group practices and medical imaging centers.
Prior to her work in the corporate world, Barbara designed curriculum
and materials for diagnostic ultrasound schools and initiated one
of the first certified echocardiography training programs in Los
Angeles, California. Having taught elementary school for four years
before entering the medical field, Barbara successfully adapted
her knowledge of behavioral objectives and curriculum design to
her work with adults. Her patient education programs have been utilized
by physicians, hospital groups and medical equipment manufacturers,
for whom she also created and directed customer training programs.
Prior to joining Wolf Management Consultants, Barbara was principal
of Advantage Consulting, a career and personal development resource
company. She earned a BA and California teaching credential from
UCLA and completed graduate courses in Instructional Design at USC.
She is licensed in the field of diagnostic cardiac sonography and
is certified as a consultant in MAPP and Wilson Learning Systems.
